On 27 January 1967, three astronauts were sealed inside their Apollo spacecraft on Pad 34 for a routine launch rehearsal. Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee were on a rocket with no fuel, in a test nobody had classed as dangerous. When fire broke out, the only way out was a hatch that opened inward, against the pressure.
